Tracks of the Week: 26/03/2013
‘Diane Young’ was one of two songs, from the band’s forthcoming album Modern Vampires of the City, launched worldwide on Monday 18th March. It is the punchier and more vibrant-sounding of the two tracks, the other named ‘Step’. As a prequel to the album’s release, it infers that fans can expect more unique sounds from Vampire Weekend. ‘Diane Young’ echoes the short and snappy sound that they became loved for on past tracks ‘A-Punk’ and ‘Cousins’. Just over a week on, it’s still as catchy as it was on first listen.
‘Modern Vampires of the City’ UK release date: May 6th.

Noah and the Whale – There Will Come a Time
Noah and the Whale’s new single also premièred last week, as their new album is to be released in May. ‘There Will Come a Time’ is a welcome return to form. Some progression in their sound is evident but the instantly-recognisable voice of lead singer Charlie Fink brings light to the lyrics. The five-piece band from London have released an interesting video to accompany the track, a possible taster of the film directed by Fink that will coincide with the release of the new album.
‘Heart of Nowhere’ UK release date: May 6th.

HAIM – Falling (Duke Dumont Remix)
The bitterly cold weather is a main topic of conversation at the moment. So what better way to look forward to Summer than by shutting the curtains, getting the fire on and blasting Duke Dumont’s remix of HAIM’s ‘Falling’. It was Annie Mac’s Hottest Record when she was in for Zane Lowe on Radio 1 a couple of weeks ago, and it’s got a really good vibe. Este, Alana and Danielle Haim three sisters from Los Angeles, plus a drummer named Dash Hutton and that’s who HAIM are. As well as winning the BBC’s Sound of 2013 poll at the beginning of the year, they have just been awarded the prestigious Grulke Prize for Developing US Act after stunning those lucky enough to see them at the recent SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas.
